I’m Jarno Artika, an award-winning photographer and photojournalist based in Joensuu. In portrait photography I focus on what makes a person genuinely engaging in an image. For me, portraits are storytelling: I seek personality, expression and a connection with the viewer. Years of experience working in newspapers and as a freelance photographer have taught me to find the right moment, lighting and angle that turn a portrait into something more than just a pretty picture. Why choose me for portrait photography? My working method combines technical expertise with a human touch. I know the principles of lighting and composition, but I also understand that the best results come from trust: a good atmosphere shows in the final image. I aim to create a relaxed and secure shooting environment where conversation and gentle direction bring out natural expressions — clients often say the result has a "WOW!" effect even from ordinary moments. In addition to portrait photography, I offer corporate imagery and professional profile portraits such as LinkedIn photos and images for company communications. In corporate shoots I blend a portrait-led approach with the needs of your brand: the images should reflect the people and tell the company’s story at the same time. Shooting style and lighting are always planned together with the client so the final images suit their practical purpose — for websites, brochures or staff photography. How do I work? We start with a discussion about goals and preferences: do you want a classic, documentary or expressive portrait style? The shoot is tailored to location and available light — the world is my studio, and I work both on location and in controlled setups. After the session I carefully select and edit the images so they perform well both on screen and in larger print formats. While portrait photography is my core skill, I can support broader, project-based image productions and corporate video production if needed.
