PhotoDance Valmela is a Lahti-based portrait studio specializing in portrait photography. I am Tarmo Valmela — a photographer and artist creating portraits and personal images since 1996. My core expertise is portrait photography: I always aim to capture the subject’s personality and expression in a way that feels genuine and natural. My working method combines professional technical skill with a calm, conversational approach. In my studio in central Lahti I create controlled lighting and a deliberate portrait language; when appropriate I also make use of locations — the city, natural settings or places that matter to the client add storytelling depth to the images. During sessions I give relaxed, clear guidance so expressions and poses feel authentic in front of the camera. I value the details in portrait work: light shaping, the subtle nuances of expression and the rhythm of composition. My background in dance and fine art photography adds a sense of movement and a sculptural perspective to how I present body, expression and gestures. The goal is more than a tidy ID photo — I want to create an image that reveals something about the person and their story. Although portrait photography is my specialty, I also produce corporate portraits and professional headshots for businesses: a polished corporate portrait builds trust and communicates a company’s style. On request I photograph weddings, events and families, and I run photography courses — yet portraiture remains where I feel strongest.
