Kuvastaja Oy’s portrait photography is built on over 20 years of professional experience and a journalistic approach. Vesa‑Matti Väärä specialises in portraits that aim to tell a person’s story and create a trustworthy, natural image for both corporate communications and personal use. In my work I emphasise authenticity: I want the portrait to speak to the viewer and convey the subject’s personality without artificial affectation. My expertise covers professional images for companies as well as individual portraits for LinkedIn profiles and communications. I shoot staff photography where the overall look and consistent appearance support the organisation’s brand. My approach is documentary and journalistic — I look for moments and expressions that feel genuine and stand the test of time. In my images the situation and environment are often part of the story; I strive to capture a single frame that communicates a person’s role and personality. The portrait process is agreed and collaborative with the client: we start with a conversation about the intended use and wishes, prepare the location and shooting rhythm together, and aim to create a relaxed, trusting atmosphere. Sessions can take place in the workplace, outdoors or in documentary-style situations — always with a respectful, situation-appropriate approach. Because I also have a background in video production and documentary shooting, I can, when needed, combine short video clips with portraits or create a broader visual package to meet your communication needs.
