Photographer Mikko Kaaresmaa is a Turku-based portrait photographer whose work emphasizes natural light, pared-back aesthetics, and genuine expression. I graduated from the Institute of Visual Communication (VVI) in 2004 and have worked professionally for many years — portrait and corporate photography are both my everyday work and passion. A childhood, electric-blue Kodak compact camera sparked my enthusiasm for photography, and that curiosity still shows in my aim to find beauty in ordinary moments. In portrait work I seek expression, contrast, and often simplified lighting that flatters facial features and highlights character. My practice is built on experience and a genuine interest in people, environments, and details. I’m also a father, and both family life and professional work inform how I create a relaxed, safe atmosphere during shoots.
